Groningen is the capital city of the Dutch province of Groningen. The municipality of Groningen had 184,675 inhabitants as of December 31st, 2008. Although the city itself is not so populous, Groningen is among the ten largest cities in the Netherlands. It is a city with a wide variety of industry and commerce. Groningen is also a university town with over 50,000 students.
